ISLAMABAD, April 13 (INP): Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Aleem Khan should be granted bail if those who looted billions and caused losses to the national exchequer can have their bails approved easily.
The information minister tweeted, “Aleem Khan’s case is less serious. If those suspects who looted billions from the country can be granted bail so easily, then a businessman who faces no charges of causing any loss to the national exchequer should also be given bail.”
“It is a common perception that Aleem has been sentenced in a crime that he did not commit owing to the noise created by the opposition,” he added.
Chaudhry’s tweet comes days after the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi’s life sentence in ephedrine quota case and ordered his release. On June 22, 2018, a special anti-narcotics court had sentenced Abbasi to life in the ephedrine quota case.
On February 6, the National Accountability Bureau arrested former provincial minister Aleem Khan from an accountability court for allegedly owning assets beyond his known sources of income. He is named in multiple corruption cases, including one involving an offshore company.
