Zardari demands resignation of Nawaz Sharif on moral grounds; Rejects SC verdict in Panama papers
ISLAMABAD, Apr 20 (INP) Pakistan Peoples Party (Parliamentarians) Chairman and former President Asif Ali Zardari has rejected the verdict in the Panama Papers and said the PPP and the people of Pakistan never got justice from the Apex Court. Addressing a press conference here along with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other senior leaders, Mr Zardari asked the Prime Minister to resign from his office on moral grounds. He said Nawaz Sharif has failed to run the country and he should resign and let someone else take the country forward. He said that Imran Khan is an inexperienced and did not accept the PPP offer to join hands, make law and then move to the Supreme Court. Referring to the 3-2 verdict, the former President said two senior judges in the bench gave the best verdict for the disqualification of the Prime Minister for not being honest and righteous. He said the three junior judges did not come up the expectations of the people. He said the verdict has damaged justice and democracy. He said the people of Pakistan have been befooled. He said the lawyers of the PPP would study the detailed judgement and then the party would come out its final stance. He assured that the PPP would take any decision which is in the interest of the nation. Zardari questioned whether the JIT would go to the Prime Minister House to record his statement or Mr Nawaz Sharif would go to the police station. Taking a jibe at the ruling party, Zardari said that the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz should be ashamed of distributed sweets after the Panama verdict. “They are distributing sweets, they should be ashamed. Why are they distributing sweets? Because two senior judges have called for their disqualification; they have said that you have not remained Saadiq and Amen.” To a question, Mr Zardari said the PPP would certainly take part in the elections. Senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan said the decision of three junior judges is faulty and it would not impact the process of accountability. He said the formation of JIT is a way to enable Prime Minister to go scot free. He said the verdict of the two dissenting judges, who are the senior most is more heavy over the others. In addition, he said the three judges did not oppose the view point of the two judges who ruled the denotification of the Prime Minister. He regretted that while the Apex court restored the Nawaz Sharif government which was dismissed on corruption charges while Ms Benazir Bhutto government which was dismissed by Ghulam Ishaq Khan on the same ground was not restored. Qamar Zaman Kaira said the PPP always tried to take the opposition parties along and it would depend on the situation in the future how the things would proceed. INP/AJ
