Cabinet members PHCBA meet Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry

ISLAMABAD, April 30 (INP): A delegation of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association headed by its President Mr. S.M. Atiq Shah and comprising other office bearers met the Chief Justice of Pakistan The delegation discussed with the Chief Justice, the issues of the lawyer community is faced with in particular the deteriorating law and order situation in parts of the Frontier Province and the winding up of judicial process in the PATA region.

The Chief Justice responded that huge responsibility has been cast on the shoulders of legal fraternity to standby the supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law in the Society. He said that it is only through adherence to rule of law that governance can be ensured and economic activities could be generated. He appreciated the struggle and cooperation of the members of the bar in the Frontier Province for standing firmly on the principle of independence of judiciary.

The members of the bar extended invitation to the Chief Justice to visit Peshawar and administer oath to the newly elected cabinet members of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association. They further extended their support and cooperation to the scheme of the Hon’ble Chief Justice to bring about improvement in the dispensation of justice and cleansing the judiciary of corrupt elements.

The Chief Justice asked them to report with credible evidence against corrupt judicial officers and court staff for appropriate action. He said that he had set up a Cell headed by a senior puisne Judge, Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Judge, Supreme Court of Pakistan to monitor complaints against corruption. The purpose is to eradicate corruption at all level of judicial hierarchy. The members of the bar association thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for receiving them and hearing their suggestions.
