A day after the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, Haryana police have directed all residential societies in the Gurugram city of the southeastern Indian state to submit lists of residents from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting India’s continued profiling of Kashmiris. The notice was issued by the city police. Assistant Police Commissioner Vishnu Prasad said the authorities were seeking details about who had arrived from where and for how long they had been residing in the city.
The directive comes after a car blast on Monday evening near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station in Delhi, which killed 13 people. While the cause of the explosion remains under investigation, a case has been registered under India’s draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Explosives Act. The move by Gurugram authorities to single out Kashmiri residents underscores the Indian government’s continuing suspicion and profiling of Kashmiris, contradicting its so-called claim of IIOJK as its integral part.
