December 07, 2025

WAPDA’s Diamer Basha Dam Project (DBDP) has announced the opening of applications for the second batch of its paid internship program, offering seven positions to recent engineering graduates from the project area, according to an official notification.

The six-month internship will place successful candidates in various divisions, including construction, quality assurance and control, technical, and surveying. Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside international experts from the project’s main contractor, POWERCHINA, and will receive both on-site and office-based training, according to a report carried by Gwadar Pro.

Applicants must hold a degree in civil engineering or a related field and are required to submit attested academic documents, an updated CV, a copy of their CNIC, and a police character certificate to the DBDP offices in Chilas or Thore by December 11.

A DBDP spokesperson stated that the initiative reflects WAPDA’s commitment to providing "training opportunities right at the doorstep of local communities," enabling young people to build a strong foundation for their professional careers.

He added that the project has also launched technical skills programs aimed at enhancing the employability of less-educated residents in various trades.

This internship is part of ongoing efforts by DBDP and PowerChina to increase employment opportunities for residents near the project site. In September 2025, the project announced over 130 openings as part of its Confidence Building Measures, including junior engineer positions, environmental monitoring staff, sub-engineers, and skilled and semi-skilled labor such as heavy equipment operators, masons, steel fixers, and dump truck drivers.

PowerChina had previously hired 190 community members in April 2023 and another 208 skilled and technical workers in December 2022. Many interns from earlier batches were later hired by project contractors, highlighting the continued efforts to develop a trained local workforce for the long-term success of the DBDP.
