The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has strongly condemned Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent provocative remarks, stating that maligning the Hurriyat is a blatant attempt to malign the peaceful freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people.
APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, in a statement issued in Islamabad, said that Amit Shah’s speech in the Indian Parliament reflected not only India's frustration over its repeated failures in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, but also the growing public resistance and increasing global concern over the Kashmir dispute.
Safi reiterated that the Hurriyat Conference is a legitimate and representative platform of the Kashmiri people, peacefully advocating for the UN-recognized right to self-determination. He said that the Indian Home Minister’s statement is an attempt to criminalize dissent and delegitimize the indigenous political movement in IIOJK.
He further stated that by abrogating Article 370 in August 2019, the Modi regime laid the groundwork for altering the Muslim-majority character of the territory through demographic engineering.“On August 5, Kashmiris will once again observe Black Day to reject India’s illegal actions and send a clear message that their struggle for freedom will continue until its logical conclusion,” Safi added.
Appealing to the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the European Union, the APHC-AJK leader urged them to take serious notice of the grave human rights violations being committed by Indian forces in the occupied territory and to play their role in ensuring the Kashmiris are granted their inalienable right to self-determination.
