Flood may hit Pakistan after India opens all gates of Salal Dam in Reasiتازترین

July 22, 2026

Indian authorities have opened all gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, raising fear of flooding in Pakistan. According to Kashmir Media Service, all gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district were opened to regulate the increasing water level in the reservoir as persistent rain continued to feed the Chenab River system.

The controlled release of water from the dam, coupled with heavy inflows from upstream, has significantly raised the water level in the Chenab River, resulting in strong currents and a swollen river downstream. Officials have advised people to avoid venturing close to the Chenab, warning that water levels may fluctuate depending on further rainfall and reservoir management requirements.

The release comes amid an intense spell of monsoon rainfall that has affected several parts of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, triggering flash floods, landslides and disruptions to road connectivity in multiple districts.
