Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called an emergency meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and other senior leadership today to review the ongoing verbal clash with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Senior leadership and CEC members will attend the meeting via Zoom, where the PPP will finalise its future strategy regarding its strained ties with the PML-N.

Sources added that Bilawal Bhutto will brief party members about the meeting held last night between President Asif Ali Zardari and a PML-N delegation and will take them into confidence over the discussions.  The emergency meeting comes amid rising political tensions between the two coalition partners.  Last night, a PML-N delegation comprising Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Ishaq Dar and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq met with President Zardari to discuss the growing discord between the two parties. Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi was also present.

Meanwhile, in a clear show of protest, the PPP has decided to boycott today’s Punjab Assembly session over the escalating war of words with the PML-N. PPP Parliamentary Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Syed Ali Haider Gillani, has directed all party members not to attend the session until further instructions from the party leadership. Gillani also instructed that if any PPP member appears in the Assembly, they should refrain from participating in the House proceedings.
