The religious political party Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has announced a large-scale protest, dubbed the “Labbaik Ya Aqsa Million March,” scheduled for October 10 in the federal capital, Islamabad. In response, authorities have significantly heightened security measures across the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to maintain law and order. Following TLP’s announcement, the Islamabad police issued a directive mandating full attendance for all federal police personnel.
Senior officers in the operation division have been instructed to remain on high alert. A statement from the Islamabad police confirmed that law enforcement agencies have already taken action against TLP workers in various parts of the city, with several detentions reported. The detained individuals have been transferred to local police stations for further processing. In Rawalpindi, the district administration has taken proactive measures by ordering the evacuation of all hotels near the Faizabad area, a key location in the twin cities.
According to a private TV report, a magistrate issued orders last night for hotels to be vacated by 7 a.m. today. Additionally, hotel owners have been directed to keep their establishments closed until October 12 to prevent any potential unrest. City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Khalid Hamdani, emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for lawlessness.
Speaking after a high-level meeting, Hamdani stated, “Under no circumstances will anyone be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Blocking roads or disrupting traffic will not be permitted, and no activity that affects normal life will be tolerated.” He further warned that any violent actions disguised as protests would face strict consequences, with legal action promised against violators.
