ATC disposes of bail petition of PTI leaderBreaking

July 18, 2025

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore disposed of a bail petition filed by Pakistan Tarheek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mian Mehmoodur Rashid in addressing a gathering, siege, and arson case at Sherpao Bridge. Anti-terrorism court judge Arshad Javed heard the case on Friday. During the hearing, former Provincial Minister Mian Mehmoodur Rashid withdrew his bail petition. In his petition, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid stated that all the cases filed against him are purely on political grounds.

A case is filed against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader in the Sarwar Road Police Station. Earlier on July 14, 2025, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has strongly condemned the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) decision that rejected the bail applications of its leaders -- Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed -- terming it politically-motivated and legally flawed .

The case (FIR No 103/230) was registered against the three PTI leaders by the Sarwar Road police. A statement issued by the PTI Punjab media cell says the ATC decision reflects a clear violation of the principle of consistency in bail jurisprudence, as bail in the same case was granted to Senator Ijaz Chaudhry by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
