Credibility of elections completely eroded: Khokhar Breaking

June 03, 2025

Former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has strongly criticized the current political situation in the country, declaring that the credibility of elections has completely eroded, turning the democratic process into what he called a "hollow exercise" and a "bidding game."In an interview with a private television channel, Khokhar expressed grave concerns over the ongoing political crisis, stating that the burden is being unfairly borne by the people while the ruling and opposition parties continue to play what he described as a "musical chairs game" over power.

"The way things are moving, there seems to be no end in sight. If this circular journey continues, we cannot expect any real improvement," he said. Commenting on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest call, Khokhar said it remains to be seen how the public responds amid the current uncertainty. He also noted that religious parties are gearing up for street protests over legislation concerning the age of marriage, adding another layer of complexity to the political landscape. He emphasized that it is the government's primary responsibility to stabilize the situation.

However, he criticized PTI for its desire to engage directly with the establishment rather than taking the political route, saying this approach is complicating the process further."The government and PTI must sit down together for meaningful dialogue if we want to achieve political stability," Khokhar stressed. He lamented the lack of focus on real public issues, noting that political discourse is increasingly detached from the needs and problems of ordinary citizens. "Unfortunately, national issues are being ignored, and the politics of the country has shifted away from the people it is supposed to serve," he concluded.
