July 09, 2025

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a key meeting to assess the declining state of hockey in Pakistan and explore ways to revive the country's national sport. The meeting brought together top officials including the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Minister for Information, Secretary IPC, Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), and senior representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis.

Acknowledging hockey’s historical significance and symbolic status as the national sport, the committee stressed the urgent need to strengthen institutional support, invest in grassroots development and ensure a sustained revival strategy across all levels—school, club, provincial, and national. Deputy PM Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fully support hockey’s promotion, both domestically and on the international stage.

He called for coordinated action among ministries and stakeholders to restore Pakistan’s lost glory in the sport. “The revival of hockey is not just about sport—it’s about national pride,” the DPM emphasized. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to develop a strategic roadmap aimed at improving training facilities, identifying young talent, and restructuring the sport's administration for long-term growth.
