A 54-year-old driver died under mysterious circumstances in Pulwama district of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK), further fueling people’s concern over the alarming pattern of unexplained deaths in the territory. According to Kashmir Media Service, the deceased was identified as Sajad Ahmad Shah, a resident of Panzgam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
He was found unconscious in the Kadlabal area of Pampore in Pulwama early Thursday morning and was immediately shifted to SMHS Hospital Srinagar, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Indian police have claimed to have taken cognizance of the incident and launched an investigation.
However, such routine statements have done little to restore public trust, especially given the repeated instances in which similar deaths were later linked to abductions, custodial torture, or extrajudicial killings by Indian forces’ personnel.
