Kuwait’s General Traffic Department will launch a smart home vehicle impoundment system on September 6, 2026, for vehicles involved in violations that carry an impoundment penalty.According to the Arab Times, the initiative is part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to expand smart services, modernize traffic procedures and make services more convenient for motorists.Under the new system, a smart impoundment device will be installed on the vehicle at the location where the violation is recorded.
The official impoundment period will begin at midnight on the same day, allowing the vehicle owner time to transport the vehicle to the designated location for home impoundment. The installation fee for the smart device will be KD 10, in addition to a basic impoundment charge of KD 2 per day.The system will also allow vehicles already being held at traffic impoundment garages to be transferred to the smart home impoundment system, enabling owners to complete the remainder of the required impoundment period at home.
Once the impoundment period ends, the violator will receive a notification through the Sahel application. The vehicle must then be taken to one of the locations designated by the General Traffic Department to complete the release procedures. The department said the new system is aimed at modernizing traffic services, simplifying procedures and improving the quality of services provided to motorists. It also urged drivers to comply with traffic regulations and avoid violations, emphasizing the importance of protecting their own safety and that of other road users while strengthening traffic security and safety.
