UoP employees threaten to strike amid salary delaysBreaking

July 17, 2025

The University of Peshawar is facing an escalating financial crisis, leaving employees without their salaries and pensions.  Frustrated by the continued delays, staff members have threatened to go on strike, warning that the situation is slipping out of control.  For the past two years, the university has been grappling with a severe budget shortfall, making it increasingly difficult to disburse salaries and pensions to its employees.

Despite annual special grants from the provincial government and a significant hike in student fees, the university has failed to make timely payments.  As of now, June salaries and pensions remain unpaid, even a week into July. This has sparked widespread anxiety among staff, many of whom are struggling to manage their day-to-day expenses. Sources within the university confirm that there is no immediate plan for salary disbursement.

The administration has acknowledged the crisis but ruled out any short-term solution, adding to the growing unrest. With no resolution in sight, the threat of a work stoppage looms large, potentially disrupting academic and administrative operations further.
