The long-delayed housing project for parliamentarians and the support staff at the Parliament Lodges is now scheduled for completion in June 2026, according to an official document available with Wealth Pakistan.

The project titled “Construction of 104 Additional Family Suites for Members of the Parliament along with Servant Quarters at the Parliament Lodges, Islamabad,” carries a revised cost of Rs7.17 billion, which is significantly higher than the original cost of Rs2.91 billion approved in 2010.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Interior and executed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the project aims to address the shortage of residential accommodation by constructing 104 family suites for MPs and quarters for 500 drivers, servants, and support personnel of parliamentarians.

The project also includes the construction of a service block, a mosque, a boundary wall, landscaping, external development works, parking facilities, a utility room, and planned community amenities.

The project formally commenced on November 23, 2011. However, the completion target of November 2013 was missed, and multiple extensions of time (EOTs) were granted between 2013 and 2016 under the previous contracting arrangements. Under the revised PC-I approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in February 2025, the latest completion deadline has been set at June 30, 2026.

The project is being executed by M/s Mian Usman Uamr & Co., with consultancy services provided by the Engineering Consultancy Services Punjab (Pvt) Ltd. (ECSP). The project remains under monitoring as part of the federal government’s public sector development portfolio.

The prolonged delay in completing the project continues to mount pressure on the existing facilities, necessitating interim arrangements for the parliamentarians and staff. The timely completion of the project will also minimize the increase in cost and administrative complications.
