December 18, 2017

ISLAMABAD, Dec 18 (INP): National Security Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Nasir Janjua on Monday said the United States is following Indian policy on the longstanding Kashmir dispute and Pakistan fell victim to the menace of terrorism owing to its alliance with the West. Addressing a Seminar in Islamabad Janjua said U.S. is blaming Pakistan for its failures in Afghanistan while Taliban continue to gain footholds in the war-torn country. He invited all stakeholders to work collectively to end four-decade-old instability in Afghanistan and urged all parties to sit with intention of solving the festering issue instead of winning it. “Containment of China and prevention of resurgence of Russia is Pentagon’s primary objective now and it has chosen India and Afghanistan for this purpose”, Janjua told attendants while adding, “Pakistan today is over relying on nuclear deterrence to bridge the conventional gap”. Janjua questioned whether nuclear-armed India and Pakistan should remain enemies forever. Janjua lamented that despite Pakistan giving the most human and economic sacrifices in the war against terrorism, the world has still not appreciated the vital role it has played. He said that Pakistan has defeated the heinous ambitions of its enemy as the insurgents in Balochistan are laying down their weapons and choosing to say ‘Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan’ (Long live Pakistan). Lt Gen (retd) Janjua said that the India is threatening Pakistan with a conventional war. The US has given India role in Afghanistan’s political process, giving New Delhi priority over Islamabad, and has opposed the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he pointed out. Regarding Indo-US ties, he said Trump administration has been constantly spreading Indian propaganda against China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said the country’s nuclear programme is also being targeted while US is not paying heed to weapons stock that India has been piling up. While inviting India to dialogue, Janjua stated that Pakistan can connect latter with, China, Central Asia and Europe. He termed normal ties between India and Pakistan must for regional prosperity and invited India to join fate-changing China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Janjua warned against augmenting extremism and called to re-alter the region for lasting stability.   Shedding light on Pakistan’s geopolitical position, Janjua said country has potential to multiply the economic growth of region and become Asia’s production hub.   INP/LK/AH
