FAO Pakistan celebrated World Food Day 2025 with a high-level event focused on promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems in the country. The celebration brought together policymakers, development partners, researchers, students, and representatives from the private sector. The event featured the Chief Guest, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, who highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan’s food systems. He emphasized the importance of empowering farmers, ensuring access to safe and nutritious food, and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders to build a resilient and inclusive food system.
The highlight of the event was a high-level panel discussion on “Working Hand in Hand for Food Systems Transformation,” moderated by Dr. Qasim Kakar, Deputy Secretary, MNFSR. Panelists included Lindita Bare, Deputy Country Director, WFP Pakistan; Ayesha Quresh, Country Programme Analyst, IFAD Pakistan; James Robert Okoth, Officer In-Charge, FAO Pakistan; and Mr. Amir Mohyuddin, Federal Secretary, MNFSR. The discussion focused on actionable pathways to strengthen agricultural productivity, promote climate-resilient practices, improve nutrition, and support smallholder farmers, women, and youth. Panelists emphasized the need for innovation, evidence-based solutions, and coordinated action across sectors.
Prior to the event, essay and poster competitions were held in public and private schools across Islamabad, engaging students in creative expressions on food security, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. Winners were recognized and awarded during the ceremony, highlighting the important role of young people in raising awareness and promoting healthy food systems.
The event also featured an exhibition showcasing innovative agricultural practices and student artwork, providing a platform for participants to explore ideas, exchange knowledge, and learn about initiatives supporting sustainable food systems in Pakistan. World Food Day 2025 reinforced the message that transforming food systems is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration, innovation, and active participation from all sectors of society.
