Sutlej River in low flood at Ganda Singh Wala, Sulemanki head worksBreaking

The water level has surged in Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki Headworks. Sutlej has been in low flood level at Headworks with 72,976 cusecs inflow and 63,412 cusecs outflow. The water level has reached to 19.40 at Ganda Singh Wala. The river has also been in low flood in Bahawalnagar district and floodwater has broken protective dykes at Chavika Hatthar and Fatwera, while a breach has also develope at the road leading to Momika and Yaseenka. Dozens of settlements land links have been severed, while floodwater has entered in several villages adjoining to the river belt.

Flood affected people facing difficulties in evacuation owing to the floodwater. Rescue 1122 teams have shifted several stranded people to safer places. The river eroding at Aakoka, Mari Mian Sahib, Santeka, Bahadurka, Chavika and other areas. Meanwhile, Chenab River eroding riverbank Mallah Wala village in the vicinity of Jalalpur Bhattian and over 100 acres of agriculture land has drowned under the river water. Moreover, the farmers in Jalalpur Bhattian complaining unavailability of fodder for their livestock. India had released over 2,00,000 cusecs water in Sutlej downstream in Pakistan recently after persistent rains in the catchment areas of the river. The country had discharged water from Harike and Ferozepur waterworks in River Sutlej to downstream areas.It was in 1988 that Pakistan had witnessed worst flooding in the two eastern rivers Ravi and Sutlej which devastated crops and livelihoods over thousands of acres.
