The Cabinet Division has sought Rs1,543 million for the next phase of the Islamabad Technopolis project under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2026-27, signalling a renewed push to transform the capital into a hub of innovation and technology.

According to a document available with Wealth Pakistan, the total approved cost of the project is Rs1.98 billion, out of which Rs303.7 million had been utilized by June 30, 2025. Under the PSDP 2025-26, an amount of Rs138.28 million was earmarked for the project.

The project aims to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, including research laboratories, incubation centres, integrated digital connectivity systems, a boundary wall, a 132KV electrical transmission line, a water supply transmission line, a gas supply line, drainage culverts, and the remodelling of drainage systems.

It also seeks to act as a catalyst for enhancing technology exports in Pakistan by encouraging high-tech and innovative solutions and fostering entrepreneurship. The initiative focuses on transforming the economic outlook of Pakistan through the promotion of technology exports and by encouraging knowledge transfer from global technology hubs.

Furthermore, it intends to develop employment opportunities within the region at both national and international levels, create skilled and upskilled employment, enhance direct foreign investment, and ultimately contribute to raising the national income level.

The Rs1.5 billion demand reflects the government’s intent to speed up the next phase of development. Experts note that consistent funding and strong policy support will remain key factors to ensure the project’s success.

If implemented effectively, the project could enhance the country’s global competitiveness and position it as a regional leader in technological innovation.
