National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has called for the release of ailing prisoners, including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, and urged the authorities to provide them proper medical treatment. According to Kashmir Media Service, Farooq Abdullah talking to the media men at Dooru in south Kashmir said, “Shabbir Shah is ailing and should either be treated or released on parole. If he dies in jail, the blame will fall on the government. It is a question of humanity”.
“I agree with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that what is being done with the prisoners is a human rights violation,” he said, adding that inmates in Tihar and other jails deserve medical care. NC President also criticised what he called the “punishment” of [occupied] Jammu and Kashmir for being a Muslim-majority territory. “Now, even our statehood has been snatched because we are a Muslim-majority territory,” the former chief minister said.
