The Balochistan Employees Social Security Institution (BESSI) has formally made operational its zonal office and dispensary in Gwadar, marking another step by the provincial government to expand social protection and healthcare facilities for the city’s labour community.
The facility was launched under the supervision of BESSI Commissioner Imran Bangulzai, Gwadar Pro reported on Friday.
Local labour representatives welcomed the development, calling it a timely initiative to support workers and their families.
BESSI provides registered workers with access to healthcare and basic social security services across Balochistan.
As part of the new setup in Gwadar, an MBBS-qualified physician, Dr. Sangeen Aslam, has been appointed to serve workers through the dispensary.
The centre will provide primary medical care and consultations for registered workers.
Patients requiring specialized or advanced treatment will be referred to empanelled hospitals in Karachi, where treatment will be provided free of charge.
Officials noted that the move comes alongside other welfare measures introduced in Gwadar this week, including the deployment of a Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) mobile registration van to assist low-income families with enrolment and grievance resolution.
The initiative is aimed at making social protection services more accessible for residents across the district.
The expansion of healthcare and welfare infrastructure is part of the Balochistan government’s initiatives to improve living standards for the people of Gwadar as the port city continues to grow as an economic hub.
