'Abdul Sattar Edhi' remembered for unmatched humanitarian workتازترین

Abdul Sattar Edhi, Pakistan’s most revered humanitarian was remembered on Tuesday (July 8) on his ninth death anniversary, as media platforms reflected on his profound impact and enduring legacy.A report said that Abdul Sattar Edhi’ s legacy continues to inspire generations, with his foundation still actively serving the poor and vulnerable across Pakistan. 

Known for establishing the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network, Edhi also set up shelters, orphanages, and clinics nationwide, earning him both national and international recognition, said a report with a local news channel. The report highlighted that despite limited resources, Edhi' s unwavering commitment to humanity transformed countless lives, making him a symbol of compassion and selflessness. 

Born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat prior to the partition of the subcontinent, Edhi laid the foundations of his welfare work in Pakistan in 1951. Over the decades, he built what would become the world’s largest volunteer-run ambulance network, along with a vast network of orphanages, shelters for the destitute, and care facilities for animals. 

Honoured with numerous national and international awards including the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the Lenin Peace prize, and the Asian Nobel Edhi’ s legacy transcended borders, with his foundation delivering humanitarian aid in countries such as Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, SriLanka, Croatia, Indonesia and the United States during Hurricane Katrina. 

Edhi passed away on this day in 2016 in Karachi at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and selfless service that continues to inspire generations.
