Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday that the government would introduce the 27th constitutional amendment before the parliament very soon. He said that the PML-N and the PPP have reached an understanding on one key point of the amendment, and other coalition partners would also be taken into confidence. He made these remarks at the Senate session. “We will present it in accordance with the Constitution. You (the opposition) will have the opportunity to debate and give your opinion on it,” he told the house. 

He added that the matter would be referred to a National Assembly law committee.  “I assure you there will be no rush to pass the amendment hastily,” he emphasized. The deputy Prime Minister stated that discussions are ongoing with the government’s main coalition partner, and that other allies, including the MQM, ANP, and BAP, would also be consulted. Dar reaffirmed, “The government is introducing the 27th Constitutional Amendment, and it will be brought forward. The final document will be presented before you.” 

Referring to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s recent statement, Dar said, “I have seen Bilawal’s statement — it is his right to express his views. The points he raised were not baseless; discussions have been held on those issues. The PPP and the PML-N have reached common ground and will now bring other allies on board.” Refuring the claims, he added the amendment is not being 'parachuted' from anywhere; rather, the government will engage with stakeholders, legal forums, and other partners.
