A massive fire swept through a shopping mall in Karachi early Wednesday as the fire-fighters faced difficulties in their operation due to water shortage. The blaze erupted on the roof of the Millennium Mall located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and the spread down to fourth and third storeys of the shopping mall. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said that they have been able to extinguish the fire in most part of the building but facing difficulties due to lack of water.
He further said 11 fire-brigade vehicles including two snorkels were taking part in the operation. Humayun Khan said they will carry out a survey of the building after dousing the flames whether there was a fire safety system installed in the building or not. “Fire safety system is a must for shopping malls,” he added. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in another building in Karachi on Wednesday. The building was located at Shafiq Morr in Bengali Para. Three fire-brigade vehicles were busy in putting out the blaze.
