Pakistan is making strong diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the region, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif holding contacts with the leadership of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries, the Foreign Office said on Thursday. During a media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an praised Pakistan’s peace efforts, while Turkey continues to support Islamabad’s diplomatic initiatives.
He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Iran’s decision to send a delegation to Islamabad. The spokesperson said the prime minister also spoke with the leadership of Iran and Saudi Arabia, thanking Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his continued support for Pakistan. He noted that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share strong brotherly ties and are strategic defence partners.
He further said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, with Qatar’s leadership appreciating Pakistan’s role in reducing regional tensions. The prime minister also held talks with the President of the European Council, with both sides stressing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving complex issues. The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace, maintaining diplomatic engagement with all parties, including continued contacts with the United States and Iran, while emphasizing negotiations as the best path to resolve disputes.
Separately, Pakistan reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, stating that it considers Somaliland part of Somalia. The Foreign Office also condemned cross-border firing and shelling from Afghanistan, expressing solidarity with affected families and pledging all possible assistance to victims.
