Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Thursday that boat operation in the flood-affected areas would be conducted under the supervision of the provincial government. Speaking to the media in Lahore, she said that taking notice of the incident of a boat capsizing in Jalalpur Pirwala, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had sacked the assistant commissioner of the city. Asserting that the statements that the provincial government did nothing for the flood-hit people were wrong.
“The truth of the matter is that the Punjab government is rescuing the affected people and is taking steps for their rehabilitation,” she said, adding, “CM Maryam Nawaz has dealt with floods effectively.” Azma said that now the affected people were being provided relief goods via helicopters. “Over half of the provincial cabinet members are in Multan and Jalalpur Pirwala.” The minister said that the situation deteriorated in Khanewal after wheat was not provided to the people there. “There will be no compromise on flour prices,” she said emphatically.
