In an unusual case of pet theft, a Russian white cat, one of the rarest feline breeds, was stolen from the house of the Punjab Housing Department’s Assistant Director in Lahore. According to the FIR filed by cat owner Sher Afzal Butt at Kot Lakhpat Police Station, the cat named "Jaggu" wandered out through the main gate of the house while playing. At that moment, an unidentified man and woman on a motorcycle appeared and picked up the cat before fleeing the scene.
The complainant said the entire incident was captured on CCTV footage, which has been shared with the police. Lahore police have assured the complainant of swift action, stating that the suspects will be traced soon and the cat recovered from their custody. Russian White cats are extremely rare, comprising only 5% of the global cat population. With their striking snow-white coats, elegant build, and vivid green eyes, these cats are not only visually captivating but also highly prized, costing anywhere between $400 and $2,000.
The breed originated in the 1960s, beginning with a white kitten reportedly taken from a Russian ship and bred in Australia. Over time, they were crossbred with Russian Blue cats to retain their graceful features and calm temperament. These medium-sized cats are known for their gentle disposition, getting along well with children and other pets. The stolen cat, “Jaggu”, was not just a pet but a rare breed companion, making this case particularly distressing for the family. Police have said they are pursuing the culprits using available surveillance and hope to recover the rare feline soon.
