The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has released Rs15.79 billion for the Karachi Urban Mobility Project, popularly known as the Yellow Line, during the first two months of FY2025-26, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The Monthly Disbursement Report for August 2025 available with Wealth Pakistan records a disbursement of Rs15,793.61 million for the Yellow Line in July–August, making it one of the largest project inflows in the urban transport sector during this period.
The Ministry’s tables show that the Yellow Line project has been allocated substantial resources under the Public Sector Development framework, with early disbursements aimed at accelerating implementation. The Rs15.7 billion figure represents a significant portion of project aid recorded in July–August, which totaled $3,111.88 million across sectors.
The report categorizes the Yellow Line under major urban infrastructure projects supported by multilateral lenders. Alongside other transport sector allocations, the Karachi scheme stands out for its early progress in the fiscal year.
According to the report, the Yellow Line had a substantial budget estimate, and the Rs15.79 billion already released shows alignment between planned and actual financing. The Ministry’s data demonstrates that large infrastructure projects have begun the fiscal year with strong funding momentum.
The Asian Development Bank is listed as the primary financing partner for the Yellow Line. The disbursement reflects ADB’s continuing role in supporting urban transformation in Pakistan’s largest city.
With this disbursement, the project enters FY2025-26 with financial backing that will enable ongoing civil works, procurement, and project execution. The Ministry of Economic Affairs’ data indicates that Karachi’s transit expansion remains a key priority in the development portfolio.
