ISLAMABAD, Sept 27 (INP): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will hold here a two-day international Seerah conference on ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’, as a part of series of its activities, motivating the youth to follow the teaching of 'Quran and Sunnah' for having a better life.
The main theme of conference is ‘Fiqh Al-Sheerah’ and its contemporary applications. The scheduled dates of the event are October 4-5. It will be presided over by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid sIddiqui, it was announced here on Thursday.
It will be the fourth such consecutive event, being arranged by the University in the recent years to project the teachings of Islam, as per the guideline set by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) through his sayings and deeds.
The Vice Chancellor took a number of initiatives during the last four years to develop the AIOU as a hub of religious, social and literary activities.
The University’s academic research was also brought in line with the requirements of the society by focusing on its socio-economic issues.
The event is being arranged by the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies.
The AIOU had the distinction of winning five national awards on promotion of ‘Seerat-un-Nabi’ (SAW) through its research-based academic work. It was for first time that that the University was declared the best one among the higher educational institutions on writing research journal and articles by the Federal Ministry of Religious affairs with five awards.
Recently, a specialized research journal on Seerat Studies (Seerat-un-Nabi) was launched on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor.
It was most significant that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has awarded three indexing agencies to AIOU for providing free online access to research articles, facilitating researchers and academicians. The agencies will provide database in disciplines including the Islamic studies. INP/AJ
