ANF arrests Rana Sanaullah, Opposition strongly reacts to action

LAHORE, July 01 (INP): The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in drugs related case on Monday. Leaders of the Opposition have strongly reacted to the arrest terming it to be political revenge.

According to the ANF officials, Rana Sanaullah, also the MPA and President PML-N’s Punjab wing was taken into custody near Sukheke while was en-route to Faisalabad from Lahore.

They said a raiding party of the Lahore ANF arrested the senior PML-N politician and that investigation was underway. They added that Sanaullah was travelling with his guards when he was arrested.

Initially the ANF officials declined to give any further details of the reason for his arrest, but said that "our mandate is the fight against narcotics".

Meanwhile, the leaders of the Opposition parties have strongly reacted to the Sanaullah’s arrested terming it political revenge.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said Sanaullah's arrest was the worst example of lawlessness, and had exposed the "personal vendetta of PM Imran Khan".

"PM Imran has set an example of using national institutions against political opponents," he said.

PML-N vice-president Maryam Nawaz called the arrest "absurd" and accused Prime Minister Imran Khan of being "directly behind his arrest". She said the party loyalist was "arrested for his bold and courageous stance".

Meanwhile, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP), said the PML-N leader's arrest was a "desperate attempt at political victimisation".

"Sanaullah has been a vociferous critic of PPP in the past & is currently one of the most vocal critics of the regime. Arrests expose govts weakness & desperation," he said in his message on Twitter.
