May 15, 2018

BEIJING, May 15 (INP): China fully supports the agreement arrived between Pakistan and Afghanistan to implement the Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS) and to maintain peace and stability. A spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lu Wei said here on Tuesday at a regular news briefing that they have taken note of relevant media’s reports to this effect. He said, “China highly appreciates and firmly supports it. We believe that this is conducive to creating a favorable environment for the early realization of peace in Afghanistan and will help maintain the peace and development of the two countries and the region. As the common neighbors and friends of Afghanistan and Pakistan, we are willing to continue to play a constructive role in improving relations between the two countries. We are also willing to actively advance the tripartite cooperation between China, Afghanistan and Pakistan.” Meanwhile, China expressed its grave concern over the massive casualties caused by the violent conflict in the Gaza Strip. It opposes acts of violence against civilians and urges the Palestinians and Israelis, especially the Israeli side, to exercise restraint and avoid further tensions and escalation. According to the spokesman, the status and attribution of Jerusalem is highly complex and sensitive. It is one of the core issues of the Palestine-Israel dispute and involves ethnic and religious feelings. The Chinese side has always believed that the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks should be resumed as soon as possible in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, and the final status of Jerusalem should be resolved through dialogue. China has always firmly supported the just cause of the Palestinian people’s restoration of the legitimate rights of the nation and supported the establishment of an independent Palestine based on the 1967 borders, based on the 1967 border, with East Jerusalem as its capital, full sovereignty. China is willing to work with all parties concerned in the international community to make efforts to promote the final settlement of the Palestinian issue. The spokesman further said, the violent conflict has already caused one of the largest casualties in this region in recent years, especially the large number of civilian casualties. The Chinese government is seriously concerned about this situation. We oppose violence against civilians. Under the current circumstances, we maintain that all parties concerned, especially Israel, can exercise restraint, avoid further escalation of the situation, and avoid causing greater turmoil and casualties.
