Chinese mischief in Doklam will be dealt with ‘properly: Indian Army General

Kolkata: Dec 17 (INP) The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, Lt Gen Abhay Krishna has stated that the Indian Army is totally geared up to face any situation in the Doklam sector and any kind of mischief by China will be “dealt with properly.” The General was responding to questions about China’s decision to keep its troops stationed in Doklam through the winter. The Indian media said China has permanently stationed around 1,600 to 1,800 troops in Doklam, near the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet trijunction. Stating that he would not name anyone specifically, Lt Gen Krishna said the Indian Army is in high spirits and ready to take on any mischief. "We are totally prepared, geared up; let anybody do any mischief and he will get it back nice and proper," he told the media. Lt. Gen. Krishna was speaking at the Eastern Command headquarters at Fort William here after a wreath-laying ceremony on 'Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in 1971, which led to the liberation of Bangladesh. Asked if India was prepared for a two-front war, Lt Gen Krishna said the country was undoubtedly" ready for any eventuality. The Indian media said the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops earlier used to patrol Doklam between April-May and October-November. However, now with the setting up of permanent structures, they would remain in the area through the year. INP/AH
