Dead body of late Tahir Dawar to be shifted through Torkham border: FO

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14, 2018): The foreign office spokesperson Dr Faisal has said that Afghanistan Foreign Ministry on Wednesday confirmed the death of the missing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) police official Tahir Dawar. In a statement, Dr Faisal explained that the corpse of the ill-fated police official was first seen by people of Afghanistan’s district Dur Baba. “Afghanistan Foreign Ministry informed Pakistan’s embassy about the recovery of the dead body of Tahir Dawar. The dead body also contains service card of late SP Dawar”, added spokesperson. Faisal furthed added that dead body of deceased had not been handed over to Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Jalalabad. “The dead body will be shifted to Pakistan through Torkham border after completion of the legal procedure”, Faisal said. Earlier according to sources, the body of a senior officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Police, Tahir Dawar was handed over to the officials of Pakistani Consulate in Jalalabad on Wednesday. The officials of the Pakistani consulate in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad have received the body of the slain cop. “The body to be transported to Torkham border in a while”, said sources apprised of the development. On October-26, the ill-fated police official had gone missing in the limits area of Ramna police station of federal capital. A high-level committee was constituted on October-28 which conducted raids at scattered places in country. The committee also held talks with members of Jirga [traditional assembly of tribal leaders]. Meanwhile, outgoing Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal told journalists at a farewell ceremony that the Pakistani government had not reached out to Afghan authorities for any information about the missing police official. “How did a police officer disappear from Islamabad and turn up dead in Afghanistan?” he asked. He urged the leadership of both countries to “sit together” and talk about SP Tahir’s suspected murder. Zakhilwal also expressed grief over the police officer’s death and said he did not have any information about the abduction. INP/LK
