Diabetic patients urged for preventive measures, proper diet with medication

LAHORE, Oct 27 (INP): Principal Ameer ud Din Medical College, Prof. Dr. Ghias un Nabi Tayyab has called upon the general public to remain fully aware about the complications and medical requirements of the disease of diabetes and instead of being afraid of it, should adopt preventive measures and proper diet with medication, immediately. Prof dr. Ghias un Nabi said that diabetes is called root and reason of so many other problems and we all should take it seriously and not waste time to meet with its challenges. He said that unfortunately 25 percent of the patients of type II diabetes not even are informed that they are caught of it although there are certain indications to get ourselves checked. He observed this while addressing “Hands on Diabetes Workshop” held at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) on Friday. Senior and junior doctors of Dermatology, Palmanology, Nephrology, Neurology and Psychiatry Departments, faculty members attended this workshop while Head of the Department of Medical Unit Dr. Imran Hassan Khan, Assistant Professor Dr. Maliha Hameed, Dr.Fatima Hamdani, Dr. Kashif Aziz, Dr. Salman Shakeel and Dr. Rizwan Ahmed delivered lectures on disease of diabetes. The Principal PGMI told that after taking meal quantity of insulin exceeds in the body and it is important to control glucose on regular basis. He said that around 10 symptoms appear which indicate about the disease of diabetes and to be thirsty, to go off and on to toilet, losing weight, feeling weakness and hunger, changing mood, irritation, non-clear vision, problem in feet, delay in healing of wound are the major indications. Prof. G. N. Tayyab further said that day by day number of patients of diabetes is increasing in Pakistan and sooner our country may be in the first 10 of developing countries have maximum patients of diabetes. Similarly, in Pakistan women are more patients of this disease as compare to the men in the society. Other speakers stressed that in the present circumstances it is our duty to come forward and inform everybody around us about the complications of diabetes which would be a great service to the humanity and the society, as well. Principal PGMI also answered a number of questions of the students regarding diabetes and called this workshop a success in informing the medical students about an important disease which would certainly help them in treating the patients in their professional life.
