Earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 & 6.4 jolt Pakistan twice

ISLAMABAD, May 09 (INP): High intensity earthquakes jolted parts of Pakistan twice on Wednesday but no causalities expect few injuries due to stampede in a school of Bannu and no property damages were reported to the powerful quake which jolted various cities of the country. According to geological wing of PMD, tremours measuring 5.5 and 6.4 on Richter scale were felt in various cities on Wednesday morning and afternoon. The cities where the tremours were felt included the federal capital Islamabad, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Bajaur Agency, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, Kohat, Nowshera, Swat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara and in various districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). People of the areas where the quake was felt rushed out of their homes, offices, shops and other building in panic reciting Kalma-e-Tayyeba and verses from Holy Quran. Six students were reported injured due to stampede in a government school of Bannu but no other causalities or property damages were reported due to the quake. The epi-centre of the quake was stated to be near Afghanistan-Tajikistan border in Hindu Kush mountains at a depth of 111 kilometres, the USGS said. INP/SB
