PESHAWAR, July 11 (INP): Election Commission on Wednesday postponed general elections on PK-78 after the death of ANP Candidate, Haroon Bilour. According to the election commission now the election on PK-78 will be held with by-polls. [timed-content-server show="07/12/2018 01:00 Asia/Karachi"]It may be recalled that a senior leader of Awami National Party (ANP) and candidate for PK-78 Haroon Bilour among 20 people were killed and 65 others sustained injuries in an explosion during a corner meeting in Peshawar on Tuesday night. The blast occurred in Yaka Toot area of the provincial capital, as Haroon arrived at the stage to address supporters. CCPO Peshawar Qazi Jameel said that nearly 8 kilogram of TNT explosives was used in the blast. Zulfiqar Ali Babakhel, a spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital, confirmed the death toll from the blast saying that above 50 wounded persons were brought to the hospital. The injured were being given medical attention at the hospital, he said. Confirming Haroon Bilour’s martyrdom, the spokesman said that Haroon’s son, Danial Bilour, was safe. The rescue teams and law enforcement agencies reached the site of the blast. Police and bomb disposal officials collected evidence from the site of the blast and initiated an investigation into the incident. Earlier on July 10, Information Minister Barrister Ali Zafar has once again made it clear that the general elections will be held as per the schedule. Talking to the media persons in Islamabad Tuesday, said it is the constitutional responsibility of the caretaker government to cooperate with the election commission of Pakistan for the smooth conduct of elections. When asked about the threats faced by the political leaders, the Minister said both the federal and provincial governments will provide necessary security to the political leaders.
