March 17, 2018

MULTAN, March 17 (INP): Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazalur Rehman expressing concerns over the way the Senate elections were contested, has alleged that opportunists through horse trading defeated the democracy in the Senate polls which was extremely harmful to democratic process in the country. Talking to media persons in Multan on Saturday, Maulana Fazalur Rehman said that the horse trading in Senate elections is regretful and will harm the masses trust on democracy. When asked about differences in Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), the JUI-F chief was of the opinion that he wanted to see MMA to become single party. Though the JUI-F was not the part of Charter of Democracy (CoD) but still had ensured its implementation in letter and spirit, he added. Condemning the hurling of shoe on political leaders, he termed it unethical action and warned that no one will be spared if such kind of deed continues. JUI-F central leader Maulana Ghafoor Haideri while talking to media said that misunderstanding being created against the JUI as PML-N should take action against its party dissident rather blaming others. There was need to make reforms in Senate to halt corruption and the best way to overcome vote trading was Senators should also contest direct election, he said while responding to question. INP/SB/AK
