Unlocking new opportunities through digital literacy, North Elegance Hub (NEH), a skills training platform, is paving the way for women in Gilgit-Baltistan to participate confidently in today’s technology-driven world.
Talking to WealthPK, Awais Ahmad, a development officer in the GB government, highlighted that NEH is making significant strides in empowering women across the region by introducing innovative IT programmes designed specifically for their needs.
“As a women-led initiative, NEH is deeply committed to uplifting women, particularly those from remote and underserved areas, by equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary to lead independent and impactful lives,” he said.
Ahmad added that the introduction of IT training by NEH marks a transformative step for the region. “In GB, access to technology and digital literacy has historically been limited, especially for women. This lack of access has contributed to economic and social disparities, making it difficult for women to participate fully in the modern workforce.”
“By offering comprehensive IT courses, NEH is opening new doors for women, enabling them to explore opportunities in remote work, freelancing, online businesses, and digital entrepreneurship. These programmes not only teach technical skills but also foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-reliance,” Ahmad explained.
Talking to WealthPK, Zill-e-Huma, founder of NEH, highlighted that their mission extends beyond IT. “The organisation offers a range of programmes in vocational training, education, eco-tourism, agriculture, and career development.”
“This holistic approach ensures that women can find pathways suited to their interests and local opportunities, whether that means starting a small business, contributing to sustainable tourism, or improving agricultural practices in their communities,” she added.
“By integrating technology with traditional vocations, NEH is helping women bridge the gap between old practices and contemporary demands, making them more adaptable and resilient in a rapidly changing world,” Huma said.
“The impact of NEH’s work is already visible. Women who participate in these programmes gain not only marketable skills but also a renewed sense of confidence and agency. Many become role models in their families and communities, inspiring others to pursue education and professional growth,” she said.
Huma said that as more women become digitally literate and economically independent, the positive effects ripple outward – leading to healthier families, stronger communities, and a more vibrant local economy.
“NEH’s efforts are a testament to the power of grassroots initiatives in driving meaningful change. By focusing on empowerment through education and technology, NEH is helping to reshape the future for women in Gilgit-Baltistan, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age,” Huma explained.
