ISLAMABAD, June 27 (INP: Former finance minister Ishaq Dar said that the government was intentionally devaluing the Pakistani currency and it had conveyed the same to the international institutions much earlier.
Participating in a private TV’s channel talks last night on the issue of devaluation, he strong criticized the government to this effect, holding it responsible for the rapid rise in foreign currencies’ rates.
He said, he had also informed the nation that the government was under commitment in writing with International institutions for devaluing the currency to such an extent.
It was their commitment to take the dollar to Rs. 150 up to June this year, later to Rs. 160, and gradually up to Rs. 170.
He was of the view that the economy is on the verge of total collapse due to failure of the present government.
Terming the devaluation as a mother of all economic evils, he said at the moment it was leading the country towards economic devastation.
