Monitoring, Jan 7 (INP) - Indian captain Virat Kohli on Monday earned the maiden Test series win in Australia and broke a 71-year cycle of unsuccessful tours Down Under.
Reportedly, buoyant after the historic win, Indian players celebrated in an emphatic fashion with a full-fledged round of dancing in the hotel alongside officers of the Indian Army.
Meanwhile, a group of supporters also joined the team as everyone danced on the song ‘Mere Desh Ki Darti’ while the captain led charge by showing off some ‘Naagin Dance’ moves.
Besides, Kohli is hoping that the breakthrough test series triumph in Australia will inspire renewed reverence and passion back home for the longest form of the game.
Kohli said he hoped it would act as something of a counterbalance to popularity of the shorter, more explosive brands of cricket that have increasingly dominated the Indian game.
“I see this series as a stepping stone for this team to inspire the next lot of test cricketers,” he told reporters.
“To be passionate for test cricket firstly. When Indian cricket respects test cricket we know the fans are going to come in and watch test cricket.
“In a world where a lot of people want the easy stuff, matches that finish in the evening, I think it is important to spread that message of test cricket.
“We definitely want to build on this and always promote the message of test cricket being the most important and the most valued format of the game, which it rightfully is.
“From where I see this is our vision for Indian cricket,” he said.
India moved to the Sydney Test leading the series 2-1 with wins in Adelaide and Melbourne.
After the historic win, Kohli said "I wish Tim and the management all the very best. We all deserve to enjoy. Celebrations are going to run long into the night I can assure you. Now we’ve got no more Test cricket and no more alarms in the morning. Crowds have been outstanding. They’ve never let us feel we are playing away from home. They’ve come in numbers in every stadium."
