MiG-21 crash causes $25 Million loss to India

February 28, 2019

Islamabad, Feb 28 (INP): Pakistan retaliated against India with full force as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down two Indian aircrafts on Wednesday as they crossed the Line of Control (LoC) besides arresting an Indian pilot.

India had lost its MiG-21 aircraft, a single engine flying jet. The present cost of MiG-21 aircraft is over $25 million.

India had constructed MiG-21 aircrafts under a licensing and technology transfer agreement with Moscow. The Fishbed features Tumansky R25-300 turbojet which gives the MiG-21 a maximum speed of 1,350 mph.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is said to have operating around 120 MiG-21s. Modern fighters don’t fly much faster than the MiG-21, or manoeuvre much more capably.

Built in an era long before advanced avionics, the MiG-21 can pull out an ambush style of attack. The aircraft relies heavily on speed, attacking its target and speeding off before any enemy-fire could catch it.

The MiG-21 cost roughly $ 2.9 million in 1950s when it was being produced. Now it costs a whopping amount of $ 25.1 million.
