July 02, 2019

ISLAMABAD, July 02 (INP): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday summoned former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal in a probe related to alleged misappropriation in the Narowal Sports City case.

Iqbal, who has to present himself in NAB’s Rawalpindi office on Wednesday, is accused of causing losses worth billions to the national exchequer by initiating the Sports City project in his home constituency.

According to sources, Iqbal is accused of starting the project – worth Rs3 billion– illegally. Pakistan Sports Board is also accused of illegally using its authority for the construction of this project. The NAB summon for Iqbal comes a day after PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for drug possession. PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and senior leader Saad Rafique are also currently in jail on corruption charges.
