PARIS, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- French police forces used force to disperse a group of violent protesters on Tuesday at Nation Square in downtown Paris where the massive rally against government's pension reform plan came towards its ending.
"A black bloc was formed. We took action immediately. Thirteen arrested. One policeman injured," announced Paris Prefecture of Police.
Referred as "black bloc", ultra-activists behaving violently in demonstrations in France are always guarded against by highly alert police forces.
TV footage showed that police fired tear gas and stun grenades at a group of individuals dressed in black, faces covered in scarf or mask, who were smashing trash bins and stores or throwing bottles and stones at police.
Union CGT said 350,000 people joined the Paris rally on this "black Tuesday". The Ministry of Interior put the number at 76,000. ■
