ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (INP): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday agreed to resolve the Islamabad sit-in issue peacefully. Both the leaders in a meeting were also agreed not to use force against the protesters. During the meeting, they also exchanged views on the situation emerged after the crackdown on protesters. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired the meeting while Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Naveed Mukhtar, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal attended the meeting. The Army Chief said that the Army would act upon every order in line with the Constitution, however, there is no need to send more troops, adding that power should not be used against own people. The prime minister was also agreed with the COAS on avoiding use of force against the masses. However, the prime minister explained that the government had taken action on the court orders. The COAS voiced concern over the suspension of broadcast of news channels. He also suggested to public Raja Zafarul Haq’a report on amendment in the Constitutional clause related to Khatam-e-Nabuwat (PBUH). He said the Pakistan Army will not participate in the crackdown on the Faizabad protesters but it will safeguard the government installations in the federal capital. It was decided at a meeting of the country’s top civilian and military leaders here on Sunday. It was decided that troops would be deployed in Islamabad as the federal government, exercising its authority under Article 245 of the Constitutions, had called them out in the federal capital to assist the civilian administration in restoring peace. However, the army will not participate in the operation against the Tehreek-e-Labbaik protesters. It was urged during the meeting that the police and civilian administration were responsible for dispersing the protesters and they should do so peacefully through talks. The army chief asked the Prime Minster to order the immediate restoration of private TV channels’ transmission. The prime minister was briefed about the ongoing law and order situation across the country in the wake of the Faizabad crackdown launched on Saturday. INP/AK
