ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (INP): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted a calling attention notice in National Assembly over the PIA’s management decision to suspend its flight operation for the United States from January next year. The PPP moved to National Assembly over the issue and submitted a calling attention notice in the Assembly secretariat. The notice said that the decision to suspend operation would affect some five lakh Pakistanis living in the US. The notice said that the government’s claim of bringing improvement in PIA operation and making it a profit-earning entity had proved hollow.. The notice said that PIA’s deficit was at it peak at present. The notice demands house debate on the issue. The notice has been signed by MNAs Nafeesa Shah, Naveed Qamar, Imran Zafar Legahri and others. It is to be mentioned here that the airline has stopped booking for its twice-a-week flights for New York from November onward. However, it will continue to operate its two weekly flights — Lahore-New York and Karachi-Lahore-New York — till Dec 31. Nearly 500,000 Pakistanis live in the US and PIA has never stopped its flight operation for that country since it launched the operation there in 1961. INP/AJ
