The Special Protection Unit (SPU) Punjab has launched a round-the-clock helpline dedicated to supporting Chinese citizens in Pakistan with security concerns and related matters.
Talking to Wealth Pakistan, SPU head DIG Ghazi Salahud Din said the helpline (0327-8888111) is especially for Chinese nationals working on CPEC and non-CPEC projects, as well as private initiatives.
Special desks have been set up at major airports, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot, so that Chinese nationals can receive the right information and guidance on arrival.
The helpline works through WhatsApp and WeChat (a popular Chinese application). Messages from Chinese citizens are read by translators or interpreters, who promptly respond and give advice. This enables swift resolution of complaints and ensures proper guidance for visitors.
DIG Salahud Din said the staff operates in three shifts to ensure round-the-clock assistance. “Several districts are now linked with the SPU, and we are working tirelessly to provide support to Chinese nationals”, he added.
He said Chinese citizens can send complaints, feedback, or suggestions directly to the helpline, adding that the Home Department and Ministry of Interior are also involved in this initiative.
Police officials working on the project are being taught the Chinese language for better communication and assistance. Currently, 25 officials are enrolled for the Chinese language course.
Salahud Din said the helpline is poised to significantly enhance support for Chinese citizens in Pakistan, while strengthening friendship and mutual trust between the two nations.
