ISLAMABAD, Jan 23 (INP): Representatives from transgender community on Wednesday demanded of the quarter concerned to resolve their long pending problem of issuing the driving license to make their drive legal.
They were of the view that they face problems and victimization while driving and can't get out of the station except to go in the bus where they also face discriminatory behavior.
Alvina, a transgender said, "Usually I have to travel on daily basis to perform at events, whenever I go through, I have to give long debate in front of traffic warden".
"Some time I pay the penalty or face the discriminatory attitude by traffic police but unfortunately no one hears", she said.
"Although the issue of ID cards have been settled, but driving without driving license is quite risky", she said.
She said that other provinces have started giving licenses, but in Federal capital only one transgender got the license with strenuous efforts and references.
She said that "whenever I go to apply for license I have to face long queues and later they send me back without any reason".
She demanded of the quarter concerned to solve their issue of driving license so that they can travel from one city to another without any fear.
She said there was strong urge in the community to fight for their basic rights to bring them in social fabric.
When contacted to official from Islamabad Traffic police, Muhammad Matloob said that they have started issuing licenses to transgender as one license has been issued to transgender in federal capital.
He further said that they were trying to accommodate the problem of issuing of their driving license and soon it would be solve by taking their applications or test on priority basis.
