Turkey's parliament works on bill for sending troops to Libya: spokesman

ANKARA, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish parliament is working on drafting a bill to allow the deployment of troops in Libya, presidential spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin said Tuesday.
"There might be a need for an authorization in line with the developments over there. The parliament is conducting work on this issue," Kalin was quoted by local newspaper Daily Sabah as saying.
Turkey will continue to support Libya's UN-backed government politically and militarily, he added.
Turkey said it could send troops to Libya upon the request of the UN-recognized Tripoli-based government of Libya, which has been fighting with the east-based army loyal to Khalifa Haftar.
Haftar recently ordered the start of the final stage of a military campaign since early April to take over the capital of Tripoli.
On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to increase Turkey's military support to the UN-backed government led by Fayez al-Serraj, if necessary. ■
