US-assisted project to boost agri livelihoods in KP

February 02, 2023

In order to commemorate the accomplishment of a $477,876 project that benefitted the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Andrew Schofer was joined by US Embassy Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) Lori Antolinez, Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative Florence Rolle, and KP Special Secretary of Agriculture Department Janat Gul.

In addition to educating 16 master trainers from the Agriculture Extension Department from the districts of Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, and Torghar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the initiative aided 350 farmers, including 80 women, in learning about better alternative agricultural technology.

The collaborations between the US government, FAO, and the KP Government were discussed by Andrew Schofer. He said in addition to establishing the institutions that will continue to assist farmers by giving them crucial support for the production and selling of their crops, this initiative has shown promise in improving agricultural yield and income levels. According to FAO official Florence Rolle, developing best practices for developing alternative livelihoods in the region has been made possible by the FAO's collaboration with the US government and the KP Agriculture Department.

The US government has spent more than $1 billion via INL over the past four decades to strengthen law enforcement capabilities across Pakistan and promote civilian security. INL works in more than 90 countries to fight crime and corruption, stop the drug trade, strengthen police organisations, and promote just and accountable judicial systems.
